Kensington Nature Center
GET INVOLVED
Volunteering
The Kensington
Nature Center
is always looking for interested volunteers to help in a variety of ways. Volunteers may help with festivals, assist
with day camps, do trail work including invasive species control, answer
phones, be leaders on bird, butterfly or dragonfly counts, and help us maintain
our gardens, among other tasks. Some
work with the osprey volunteers to monitor our nesting birds; some are assigned
to a bluebird nest box trail. It depends
on what your interests are and what you’re comfortable doing.
Benefits of Volunteering
You may work
as much or as little as you wish; some of our volunteers are “regulars” while
some may only help out with special programs.
If volunteers work a minimum of 24 hours a year, a vehicle sticker will
be issued for the next year. They are
also invited to a volunteer picnic in the summer.
Procedures for Volunteering
Please contact us at the nature center, meet with some of
the staff, and fill out volunteer forms.
We may then contact you when we need assistance in your area of
interest.
Making Donations
Donations are welcomed by the Metroparks. On occasion, we are able to accept books,
mounts or other items that we have a need for.
Usually, however, it’s most useful to us if we have cash donations. The nature center has a donor “toad” for
people to “feed” if they choose – it’s by the visitor sign-in booth.
In addition, we maintain a list of items that we would like
to have, primarily to enhance our programs and exhibits. These items are usually not possible for us
to purchase through our limited budgets.
This list is available upon request.
